English Translation of "ihame gani" Kirtana

Whether it is in the material world

Or

Whether it is in the supreme world

If I’ve plenty of bhakti on you, Hari

That’s enough

How does it matter?

Where I am born or

Where I exist?

If I can serve you at any place

That is ok

Be it in the Heaven or in the nether world

If I get your name

(If your name occurs to my mind)

That is enough

It is ok if I am a Lord or a lowly servant

If I can think of you in moments of

Molten heart

What if people praise

Or throw abuses (harsh words) at me

If I am your faithful servant –

That’s enough!

In this world (on this earth)

It is ok if I learn things

(If I become a scholar)

Still ok if I don’t acquire skills

If my mind captures your feet –

That’s enough (enow)

Splendorous (compassionate) Sri Venkatesa

Protect and guide me like this

Steadfastly hold me

Dr. Balamuralikrishna's Rendition

(I first heard this song in a CD with Dr. Balamuralikrishna's vibrant voice. I think I bought it in New Jersey. Really it consists of seven gems of the choicest Annamayya compositions. It seems Sri Mohana Krishna accompanied the master as vocalist. Any errors, if any - they'll be corrected later through updates. Copyright 2022 by the author)

(I first listened this indescribable Annamayya's extraordinary beauty in a cassette with Dr. Balamuralikrishna's ringing voice. Here is a link to Sri Balakrishnaprasad's rendering: Sri Balakrishnaprasad's rendition

How can we translate and communicate Annamayya's celestial sringara? It is purely out of this mundane conflict ridden world. Who saw the beauty of Alamelumanga other than Annamayya? Sri Anantacharyulu? We'll explore and look into the meaning of this song in a future post. Any praise or encomiums heaped on this Telugu composer are too little and too futile. When I listen to this song it transports me to the Seven Hills and I am lost in the misty beautiful gardens on the Hills. I simply submit to the grace of the divine Mother.)

Riches
No riches in Balaji’s hundis
No, not a single lotus with the demure Lakshmi
And in Kubera’s godown
There aren’t enough modakas for my Ganesa
Yet
There are many hidden stones, and one-of-a-kind
Rare treasures with Siva, that wandering mendicant
With ashes all over His body
And the largest collection of treasure cosmic safe
Is with
The great Mother (aunt), Annapurna
Concealed in the stone-studded silver jar
In Her hand

Lyrics of "itti mudduladi" - Annamayya Kirtana

(Here, we can easily visualize the scene with baby Sri Krishna in the midst of Yasoda and other Gopis. What a marvelous picture it is! I got introduced to this lovely baby song (sort of lullaby) through a dance program at TTD via a video. Immediately I got hooked to it. Who wouldn't? The great grand father Telugu lyrical composition really puts his poetical camera focussed on the little Krishna. What naughty things He does? First He puts His little hand in hot cream filled milk. Ouch! He thought it was some ant bite. We'll look into this song and explore it leisurely in another post. Who would not like to pick up this attractive baby and console with kisses? Lord Venkatesa is accessible to us in this musical piece, accessible so easily. The Lord who attends to all our murky earthly problems - the same Balaji needs comfort here. Where are His little scorched fingers? Let's apply some chilled butter or cool sandalwood paste. We can't bear the Lord's excruciating pain. Annamayya, wherever you are, you are truly blessed with such high level imagination, bhakti, language, and sincerity. How can we thank you? How can I express for being a great guru, in absentia? I bow to you with pure submission. Words are useless to express my gratitude.)
